An Exercise in Self-Indulgence

Floral Friday – October 2, 2026

Posted on 2026-10-02 By RB

No, this is not a repeat. This aloe plant, which bloomed earlier this year, is now blooming again. And this time it’s throwing up multiple flower clusters.

The main one is just starting to open its little flowers, and I hope in the next week or so they all begin to bloom. If so, I’ll share another photo.

Oh, and please excuse the messy patio.

Wow…I have never seen an aloe flower like this. Is this a specialty in your region?

Not that I’m aware of. I think it’s just an ordinary aloe, but I think I got lucky with one that likes to flower. 🙂

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one! 🙂

So many commenters noted their aloe has never bloomed. I was beginning to think I have a rare one!

My aloe plants have never bloomed. Perhaps they need more sunlight than my south windows can provide. Perhaps I should buy some Miracle Gro.

So many things determine when they might bloom. Neglect seems to work for this one, but your mileage may very. Good luck!

That’s a shame, Luisa. I’ve found they can be stubborn about blooming. Perhaps you just need to talk it into giving you a flower. 🙂

Maybe that’s exactly what it needs, Richard!
I will definitely start giving it some motivational speeches !

I find that neglecting it seemed to do the trick. Perhaps it’s trying to get my attention. 🙂

They seem to be picky about when they bloom. This one has taken several years to make up its mind. Hope your aloes will bloom in the near future.

The shape looks like a tiny Christmas tree! How cute! 🙂
It should totally have tiny ornament and lights!

I just read up on aloe plants and it reminds me a lot of the cactus my parents had.
That thing just grew and grew! And sometimes would even leak… milk? But I know that one can be toxic.
The aloe plant however, does it deliver a gel? And can it be used for something?
I know I always use aloe gel for my sunburns and it is soothing!

I thought the same, Andrea. I should try to find some tiny little lights to decorate it with!
Aloe plants do indeed have a gel inside. That can be made into a nutritious juice. It’s supposed to be good for acid reflux. I haven’t made any, but I do use it for sunburn and other burns (usually, hot grease splatters). 🙂

Ah, acid reflux is one of my biggest enemies.
Tomatoes are one of my favourite foods, but I barely can stomach the acidity anymore! Maybe time to buy some aloe.

Ps. If you ever do get an artificial burn, try applying cold mustard.
I keep it in the fridge for just those occassions (and to create honey mustards sauce for my other half, his favourite sauce).
But it really does help for the burns!

I’ll keep that in mind. I always have mustard on hand, so I’ll try this next time I burn myself (which is almost daily!). 🙂
