We took the dogs out for a drive early Sunday morning, before the traffic picked up, and headed down to Miller’s Landing on Lake Jackson. The lake has been a subject of previous photos, but this time I was able to capture some early morning mist on the water.
Lake Jackson is actually on top of a sink hole that opens into a limestone aquifer deep below the surface. Every so often, the lake drains almost completely and slowly refills over time. It drained a couple of years ago, but has been unable to refill completely due to excessive drought. This photo is where a boat ramp used to meet the water’s edge. Now the edge is another thirty yards away and foliage has grown up in between.
Despite the low water level, the area is still beautiful. We’ve encountered deer, rabbits, wild chickens, and a couple of snakes on our outings in the area.
