We took the dogs out for a drive early Sunday morning, before the traffic picked up, and headed down to Miller’s Landing on Lake Jackson. The lake has been a subject of previous photos, but this time I was able to capture some early morning mist on the water.
Lake Jackson is actually on top of a sink hole that opens into a limestone aquifer deep below the surface. Every so often, the lake drains almost completely and slowly refills over time. It drained a couple of years ago, but has been unable to refill completely due to excessive drought. This photo is where a boat ramp used to meet the water’s edge. Now the edge is another thirty yards away and foliage has grown up in between.
Despite the low water level, the area is still beautiful. We’ve encountered deer, rabbits, wild chickens, and a couple of snakes on our outings in the area.

A scenic spot no doubt but shouldn’t the receding waterline be a cause for concern?
It has been a concern, but we’ve been in a drought now for over a year. Until we get a few good, soaking rains, the water level will remain low.
Still, it’s a lovely spot to watch the birds and small animals scampering about. 🙂

Out of all elements, water amazes me most!
I love the underwater world, but one of the most amazing nature specticals I have witnessed were the Niagara falls (on the Canadian side).

Yes, the pups love their moment of morning Zen. I roll down the windows, shut off the engine, and we listen to the birds chirping and the wind in the leaves. It’s a great way to start the day. ☀️
