We stopped by one of the boat landings at Lake Jackson to catch an early morning moment of Zen. Usually, there aren’t any people around, so I roll the windows down and shut off the motor, then the five of us gaze out the windows and take in the landscape.
On Sunday, we saw two early risers out on the water. A kayaker and a fisherman. I imagine they were enjoying the quiet that comes from an early morning outing.
Sunlight reflects off the surface of the lake
like a field of diamonds, sparkling as the ripples
seek the distant shore.
There is a certain quiet, a calm that exists only
in the early morning, before the others awaken and
produce their white noise.
Here, it is peaceful, serene, and the only sound is
the water, gently lapping against the sides
of a boat.
Do you have a place that makes you feel calm and grounded?

What a peaceful way to start the day. Thanks for sharing this calm and beautiful moment by the lake.
Thank you!
You’re most welcome 🤗
Gorgeous, Richard! There is nothing like the peace of slipping through a glassy lake, watching the sun peek over the trees. 💞
Agreed! I love the quiet lapping of the ripples and the birdsong in the distance. 🌞
I always look forward to the jetlag coming back to the US from Europe because I naturally wake up at 5am or so. There’s nothing like being wide awake in the very early morning before the rest of the world stirs!
Absolutely, Theresa! It’s like a secret a few of us share. 🙂
Your lake verse is perfect for today. It reminds me of Skyview Lake inside the city limits of my town.
Thanks so much, Swabby. Hoping you can get out to Skyview Lake one of these mornings and take in the tranquility.
I just have to look out of a window to see the sea.
And I am incredibly jealous, Sheree! 🙂
Oh AI / trch Gods, please transport me to that place, right now! 😄
Nature is always calming, but since most people claim not to be a morning person, the start of the day is probably the most serene.
Luckily, I do prefer the start of the day 🙂
Also, there just can’t be a more perfect “filter” than the reflection of the water. The warm glow of the sun is all we need.
I might not get to be trnsported there physically, but the poem and photo make believe I am there mentally.
Thankyou for that 🙂
LOL…it was a tranquil experience and I wish I could send you the vibes, Andrea. 🙂
I appreciate the kind words, my friend, and I’m glad you enjoyed this post. Your encouragement keeps me motivated.
Each morning that I walk into my vegetable garden before the sun peeks over the horizon is a tranquil experience. Working with hand tools or an electric hoe maintains the beauty on the moment.
That sounds wonderful, Jasper. Sometimes, the basics are all we need.
Beautiful photo and written word.
Unfortunately, for me, my peaceful place is in Indian River County, FL. Over the years, my camera and I ventured out many an early morning to capture spectacular sunrises over Indian River, and spent countless weekends in nature preserves photographing flora and fauna.
Now I live in DC…go figure.
I appreciate the kindness, Miss Parker. I haven’t been over to that part of the state in quite a while (I’m in Tallahassee), but it’s wonderful for wildlife and adventuring.
I guess you have a different sort of wildlife in D.C. Politicians and lobbyists aren’t has much fun to photograph, though. 😉
Exactly! It tends to kill creativity.
Sounds like a peaceful oasis. Sign me up!
I’ve added your name to the exclusive guest list, Pat. 🙂
Thanks, Richard.
