An Exercise in Self-Indulgence

Floral Friday – June 12, 2026

Posted on 2026-06-12 By RB

The weather here in North Florida has been beautiful and the plants seem to really enjoy it. Temperatures have been in the 60s at night, the 80s during the day, with blue skies and gentle breezes. It’s also the beginning of Hurricane Season, so I assume this is the calm before the storms begin to show up.

I snapped a few photos around the house this past week that I want to share. Please click on them for larger views and to see the captions.

The mushrooms look fascinating! But the berries are looking good.

And only one of those is edible! 🤣

I’m expecting (and hoping) the berries will all ripen as the same time. We’re finally getting some rain here and they are enjoying it!

😂🤣 so rewarding eating from one’s own produce. I’m glad to hear that the rain has finally come.

What a lovely garden, Richard! Those chalk mushrooms are so perfect they don’t seem real….and I can smell the roses and taste the anticipation of those blackberries! Yum! 💞

Oh, you aren’t the only one sensing the anticipation. The birds, the squirrels, the dogs…I’m the personal bodyguard for those bushes! 🙂

I’m glad you enjoyed the photos, Dawn. Cheers!

Very intrigued by the chalk mushrooms!
It reminds me of the foam they use fix walls, or something like that 😅

As for the yellow flower, that indeed resembles a little sun. Very beautiful 🙂

I agree, the chalk mushrooms were fascinating (they’ve since turned to mush and aren’t very pretty!). I hadn’t seen them before and was quite surprised when they popped up.

I’m glad you enjoyed the photos, Andrea. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

I’ve long had a hankering for cosmos flowers. Your Sulphur bloom is quite nice.

I’m glad you’re enjoying them, Swabby! We’re still experiencing drought conditions here and my flowers are still struggling a bit. Hoping for more rain and more cosmos soon!

Blackberries! What I wouldn’t give to be able to grow those here. When I spent some time camping in Oregon and Washington I made myself sick on them. They grow everywhere!

Oh, my wife was insistent we were going to grow blackberries last year, so I have two bushes in cloth grow bags. Last year was okay, but this year they are going wild with the blossoms.

I’d offer to send you some, but I don’t think they’ll be many left once they start to ripen. 🙂

Love the look of the sulphur cosmos and the mushrooms. I’ve never seen mushrooms so pure white and bumpy before. 😊 Looks like something from Alice Wonderland. Great photos, Richard. You have a green thumb.

Oh, they caught my eye immediately, MM. And I agree, I expected to see a caterpillar with a hookah perched on top of one of them! 🙂

Thanks for the kindness, my friend.
