Jeff Beck’s first official solo album, Blow by Blow, was released in 1975. Produced by the great George Martin (who produced many of the Beatles later albums), it’s a fantastic collection of instrumentals that span the gamut from slow and melancholy to all-out rockers. “Freeway Jam” was the stand out single, but “Cause We Ended as Lovers” (a cover of a Stevie Wonder song) was also a popular cut.
For me, however, the stand out song is “Diamond Dust”. It’s a beautiful piece of music that contains some of Beck’s best guitar work. His playing is like an emotional roller coaster, rising and falling, expressing joy and pain. It’s a great song to close a fantastic album.
Give it a listen below and let me know what you think (all credit to Jeff Beck and songwriter Bernie Holland).

Diamond Dust is truly one of the finest pieces of music that I have ever heard. A favorite of mine for many years. There’s really nothing quite like it! It definitely has a very transcendent quality all its own.
Glad I’m not the only one that loves this song! Thanks for commenting!
I agree, a great closer to a great great album. What is this, jazz-fusion? One of the early masters. The late great Jeff Beck. Saw him a couple of times in Melbourne, Palais Theatre. A proper legend. A personal favourite this album, and will be forever. Thanks Rich for the reminder, time to give it a revisit spin.
Yes, the entire album is a bit of jazz-fusion with a bit of funk thrown in for good measure. I wish I’d had a chance to see him live, especially when he had Tal Wilkenfeld on bass. Hope you enjoy revisiting this classic.
A pity that he has passed on. He was a huge talent.
I agree, my friend. One of the greatest.
Must check this out Richard.
I hope you do, Wayne. A great song from an amazing album.
Funny I was listening to it today Richard, really enjoyed it. I especially like Constipated Duck!
LOL! Oh, that’s another great song that doesn’t get mentioned enough! 🦆
Thanks for the intro to a previously unfamiliar album.
I’m glad I could bring something new to your attention, Pat. 🙂
Nice to learn something new, Richard. Thanks.
