Poetry Moment – Autumn Full Moon

Posted on 2025-10-132025-10-13 By RB

Photo of the full moon behind clouds.I was out with the pups a little after 5 a.m. the other morning (as I am every morning) and was pleasantly surprised by the full moon lighting up the yard. Coupled with the cool air, the pups decided it was a great time to start chasing each other around the raised beds and chicken coop. The moon provided just enough light that I could see them running in and out of the shadows. It was a great way to start my day.

I was also able to capture a couple of photos of the moon and clouds with my phone camera, which inspired today’s poem.

Figures move in and out of

the silver and black shadows that

stretch across the lawn in

the early morning hours.

Above, the old man’s white face creeps

across the sky as wisps of gray clouds

silently migrate from west to east

looking for something I can only dream of.

The cool air raises goosebumps on

my skin and I wrap my arms around

myself for warmth, head tilted back as

I gaze at the sky and feel the moonlight on my face.

Have you ever felt mesmerized by moonlight?

RB

Beautiful. Really enjoyed that brief moment in the predawn twilight with you and the pups.

Space both fascinates and scares me. I am the opposite of claustophobic, I get shivers when I see large things, even large cruise shipsor sky scrapers. But space is on a whole other level!

The moon is the clearest “space thingie” we can see with the naked eye. And the full moon definitely gives me those shivers. Mainly the good, exciting ones. There is something mystical about it.
And your poem and picture show exactly that feeling! 🙂

Have you ever seen any different behaviour in the pups or chicks when there is a full moon? I don’t know if it affects animals in any way.

I feel the same way…there’s so much out there we don’t know about, but should we? 🙂

As for the pups and chicks, the pups definitely seem to get more playful earlier in the morning when the moon is full. I haven’t noticed much of a change with the chicks though, unless they’re transforming into Werechickens in the middle of the night! 💀
