My blogging friend, Andrea, over at Andrea, Illustrator, recently posted a wonderful piece that I felt was a great introduction to the fall season. I highly recommend her site if you’re interested in fantastic illustrations that are playful, thoughtful, and often relatable.
When I commented on her post, she suggested I draw inspiration from it and do my own interpretation using the same – or a similar – color palette. It took me a few days, but this is what I came up with. It’s a mixture of acrylic paints and acrylic pens. It’s titled, Autumn Leaves. Click the image for a larger view.
Please check out Andrea’s wonderful blog and let me know if you’re ready for a change of season.

How striking and vivid. Love it!
Thanks so much, Michelle! Practice is starting to pay off. ๐
Lovely painting, Richard! ๐๐๐ I’m more than ready for fall, but not the winter that will be close on her heels.
Thank you!
I know what you mean, Dawn. We had unexpected snow here in North Florida last winter and I was stuck in the house for a week because my sloped driveway had frozen over. At least the dogs had fun playing in it. ๐
Bravo!
Thank you, Shree! ๐
Nice one, Richard. ๐
Thanks, mate!
Lovely composition, Richard. Your art is coming along nicely.
Thanks so much, Pat. I’ve been practicing almost daily (as time allows) and it’s nice to know I’m making progress.
Looking good!
I appreciate it! Thank you!
Thanks for accepting the challange! And what a great job you did! ๐
I especially like the bright green leaf with the yellow on top!
It almost looks like 3D. Is it just layers of paint, or โฆ maybe some glue to create this effect?
I accept the compliment, Andrea! Coming from you, that means a lot.
It’s just yellow paint, but I held the brush sort of parallel with the canvas paper and sort of ‘popped’ it to get the ridges/veining. Thank you for noticing that. It was trying to create a focal point and I guess it worked!
Thatโs a really stunning piece of art Richard.
I appreciate the kindness, my friend!
