I tend to be up before the sun rises in the morning and occasionally I get to see something unique. Recently, I caught this burst of sunlight erupting from the eastern horizon. I’m not sure what caused it, but it was so amazing to witness.
Sleep-filled eyes look to the east expecting
the soft glow of the sunrise
only to find a burst of light, like pink fire
erupting over the dark treetops.
Morning announces herself like royalty
and I unconsciously stand at attention
welcoming her with
wide eyes
and a smile.
Do you prefer a beautiful sunrise or sunset?

I love the early twilight and dawn because of the freshness and the better chances of experiencing surprises–like yours. This does not discount dusk–I just like the very early mornings best.
Same here. To me, it seems like fewer people see the dawn, so it feels more special.
Gorgeous picture and poem, Richard! ๐๐๐ I prefer the sunrise as I’m usually up before it….however I have to make an effort to catch it as my favorite spot for my morning creative time faces N/NW. I love glancing up to see the color coming back to the world, tho!
Very kind of you, Dawn. That color transition never fails to impress!
I’ve gotten so that I am awake earlier these days, so I see more sunrises. I love the quiet and peace that mornings bring me. Lovely piece, Richard.
Thanks so much, Penny!
There’s definitely something special about those quiet moments. ๐
๐ถ Sunrise, Sunset ๐ถ I had to go listen to the Perry Como song after reading your post. I enjoy both. Wonderful photo and poem. Quite a spectacular sight!
Oh, that’s a song I haven’t heard in…well, a very long time. ๐
Thank you for the kind words, MM. And thanks for stopping by. โ๏ธ
I do prefer a sunset personally.
But after your poem, Iโll try out sunrises more often. As soon as the summer is done with however, 4 AM is a bit too early to wake up ๐คญ
I did hear that sunsets near the equator are not gradual, but rather darkness at once. That must be interesting to witness ๐
My daughter, who lived in Ghana for a few months, described it as someone turning off a light switch. When you aren’t near city lights, it is pitch black.
I imagine that must take some getting used to. I’m sure it’s quite shocking the first few times it happens if you aren’t prepared for it.
We’re far enough from the equator that we still have a nice, slow sunrise/sunset. I’m not sure I’d care for the quick exit!
You’ll have to let me know what you think of the sunrise…when the time is right, of course. ๐
Agreed.
Unless it results into a curtain with a lot of bright stars ๐คฉ I would like that
Beautiful… photo and poem.
I’ve always been a morning person. My favorite work shifts always started before dawn. Sunlight creeping over the eastern edges of Disneyland is something few people get to enjoy. I still think of it when I watch the sun come up here.
Thanks so much, Michelle. I imagine that is a special view.
Thanks for stopping by!
Love both!
You’re an equal-opportunity nature lover, Sheree!
I rather like that, thanks Richard
The sunrise carries with it anticipation. It’s energizing because it’s announcing, “Let another great day begin!” That could mean facing a great challenge or great celebration.
Exactly, Jasper! Each one means we have another chance for another adventure.
I like both and it depends upon where I am and the weather conditions on which one is more likely.
Weather can definitely affect the enjoyment factor. Thanks for commenting, Pat. ๐
LOVE a sunrise.
Definitely! Seeing that light break over the horizon is a great way to start the day.
Both of beautiful, but I prefer the morning sun.๐
I agree, Hitomi. There’s something special about seeing the sun rise first thing in the morning.
