This last weekend, we took the pups to a new dog-friendly park near Mid-Town. The Guyte P. McCord Walking Path is a short drive from our house, sort of hidden from the neighboring thoroughfare by a line of trees and although small, is a lovely place to take a picturesque walk with canine companions.
The walking path meanders between manicured grass, small patches of woods, and a mid-sized pond. There are flowers, moss, low-hanging branches, and both a paved path that goes over a bridge and a dirt trail that’s shaded by dense branches.
The highlight, however, was the sculpture. There are nearly a dozen bronze sculptures scattered around the area, all created by local artist W. Stanley Proctor (who is actually quite famous – check out the link for more info on him).
My favorites were the dog-themed ones, of course.
I was amazed at the detail Proctor incorporated into each piece. The fur on the dogs, the clothing worn by the figures, but especially the expressions, were mesmerizing.
I hope you enjoy viewing them, as well. Let me know what you think of Proctor’s work and if you have a favorite from the photos I’ve shared.

I love the idea of a dog park having dog statues! By extrapolation, we need a giant statue of a pigeon in my local park! (The girl on the bench with her pup is my fav). Linda 🙂
LOL! That’s something I would love to see…parks with statues depicting their main animal occupants.
I’m glad you enjoyed the art, Linda! thanks for stopping by. 😉
Lovely tribute to the dogs as well as the park, Richard. Thank you for sharing part of your world.
Thank you, Devonne. Our little city is often overlooked.
Fun share, Richard. Love the statues.
Thanks, Pat!
They’re all delightful but my fave is the Golden Retriever who’s no doubt heading for the pond, and the ducks. It’s a delightful spot for a walk with one’s canine companion.
Oh, that is a good one, Sheree. Our pups haven’t noticed the local ducks yet, but we keep them on leashes just in case.
You have golden retriever puppies?
Oh, no, they’re just mutts, and a bit older, but they still get distracted by ducks and squirrels. 🙂
Still…..
A sculptor who is a keen observer of “man’s best friend”.
The best kind! Thanks for commenting, Jasper.
So life-like. I think people who can sculpt have amazing talent.
I looked him up as I studied art history and recognised the name but couldn’t remember his work. I think I have seen examples of his horses.
Agreed, my friend. That’s one art form I’m not brave enough to try!
Oh I love that! It’s always nice to see something interesting during a walk! And dogs are always a good choice!
The town I grew up in, had random piglets on balls statues like that all around town. Always loved them 😄
That’s fantastic, Andrea! I wonder if they had an influence on your art…although I don’t think I’ve seen you draw any piglets on balls yet. 🙂
I think the movement it these sculptures is wonderful.
In Japan, I have only seen static sculptures.
It’s wonderful to be able to experience art in a place close to home.😆💕💕💕
I’m glad you enjoyed them, Hitomi. Thank you for stopping by.
