While I enjoy my day job – and the fact I work from home – I still look forward to the weekends. I try to get chores done during the week as I can, so that way I can’t enjoy more free time when the work week ends. It feels like weekends are so fleeting and time seems to move faster each day.
As the sun gently rises on another day
And last night’s dreams slowly fade away
I sit by the window as night retreats
Listening to the early bird songs and tweets
The weekend has come, no work to do
I sit and ponder while sipping my brew
What lies ahead? I do not know
For now I have no place to go
A lazy day is what I really need
Just laying in bed with a book to read
No chores, no worries, not a care
Why does it seem weekends are so rare?
What are your weekend plans?

As a retiree, I am less fond of the weekends because local news and weather disappears while the stores, highways, and restaurants are crowded with people who have to cram things into the weekend. It is all a matter of perspective. Enjoyed the poem.
LOL…I’m getting there myself, Pat.
I also live in a college town AND the state capital, so for half the year the town is wall-to-wall people. The other half is what I prefer…peace and quiet!
I found your poem about the joys of the weekend delightful and beautifully written!
Thank you so much, Luisa. I appreciate it.
You’re more than welcome 🌼
P.S. I can’t believe you created a poem about relaxing on the weekends. It made me smile.
🙂
I’m just the opposite, probably from years of devoting my weekends to running kids around and watching their sports games. I needed to catch up on housework and laundry on the weekends as well. In my time, work was a 30-minute drive to and from a nine-hour day. IF there were no traffic problems.
Whoa! That’s a lot, Sandi. I often wonder how people with children can do it all.
What chores do you do Richard?
Since I work from home, I do ALL the chores. Vacuum, dust, laundry, plus mowing the yard and all the cooking.
My other half has it pretty good. 🙂
Richard, that’s amazing. My OH only works part-time, say 2 days per week max. He unloads the dishwasher, takes out the trash, makes coffee at breakfast, tea mid-afternoon and the occasional drink in the evening. He doesn’t clear up after himself and makes plenty of mess. Your wife is very fortunate.
LOL…I’ll be sure to show her your comment as a friendly reminder. 🙂
Please do
Hah, reminds me of a previous post of mine:

I’d love to say weekends are relaxing, but there is always something to do. Do your poems speaks truth!
I am currently travelling, yet again! A 10 hour drive to Poland 😅
LOL…that’s very accurate, Andrea!
Hope you have a safe trip! My father’s side of the family is Polish, so if you run into anyone named Bist, please tell them hello for me. 🙂
I am in Gdynia and Gdansk, in the north of Poland.
I am actually looking around for any signs that might have the name Bist on it. So far haven’t found any rich ancestors who put you in their will 🤭
I actually forgot, Bist is the Americanize version. In Poland, it was “Bieszcz”. It’s not easy to spell or pronounce and I’m glad they changed it! 🙂
Interesting!
