My partner and I (and our faithful mutts) love walking the trails in the local city, county, and state parks around us. The photo above was taken at the Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park. The trails are generally wide and open, but at this one spot the branches and vines encircled the trail and made it seem like we were entering a tunnel. It felt like the opening to a fantasy story.
Branches and leaves all around, circling
the path and blocking out the sunlight as
we make our way cautiously down the trail to
see where it may lead.
As we enter the temperature drops and we
feel chill bumps rise on our skin as our eyes
adjust to the dark.
Where will this take us? We wonder, but we
don’t turn back because the thrill of
adventure is far too strong to
resist.
After a few minutes we exit the other side and feel
the warm sun on our faces and the dogs tug at the
leashes, pulling us along to see what lies
ahead.
Have you ever come across a spot in nature that seemed surreal or out of place?

What a great place to explore. The pooches must have had a blast. Very nice photo and poem, Richard.
Thank you for the compliment, MM!
The mutts LOVED it. However, we were constantly delayed by one or both of them catching a scent that led off into the woods. 🙂
A wonderful poem, Richard. Enjoyed 🙂
Many thanks, my friend!
