Another fun writing game from LanguageisaVirus.com is titled Poem Builder. For this game, you flip three cards to write a poem. The first card tells you the subject of the poem, the second card tells you the form/structure to use, and the third card gives you a list of words to use.
I enjoy writing challenges like this because it’s like a creative workout, a ten minute exercise routine for my brain. I find them particularly useful when I’m feeling uninspired or stuck on a project.
So let’s see how this one works.
I flipped all three cards and this is what I have to work with (click the images to see the full image):
I dreamt of blackberry flapjacks
Cooked over flame in a stack
But they were confined
Within my mind
And I woke missing food that I lacked.
Okay, not the best limerick ever written, but it was a fun exercise. Are you willing to give this a try? Or at the very least share a favorite limerick!

Limericks are not really my thing. My younger sister is the poet laureate in the family and writes a verse or two for special occasions.
Perhaps you can get her to share a few on your blog, Sheree! 🙂
She only does them for “special occasions”
