This past weekend, my significant other and I decided to adopt some chicks. Not because it was Easter, however. We’ve been planning on expanding our backyard homestead to include some chickens for quite a while.
I set up a brooder from an old Amazon box, added a waterer, a feeding trough, and a heat lamp, then let the four little buggers loose to acclimate to their new home.
Things were good the first day, but by the second day I got the feeling something was going on.
A Conspiracy Afoot
They gather in the far corner,
grouped together in a tight circle.
I hear their soft chirps from the other room,
like a conversation, sometimes heated.
I walk in quietly, peeking over the edge of the box.
Then silence.
They look up at me with their black eyes,
both accusing and judgmental.
And I feel a shiver run down my spine.
Did I simply interrupt a private conversation?
Or is there a conspiracy afoot?
I’m keeping my eye on these four little ladies. They seem friendly enough, but the quiet conversations and side glances have me concerned.
Has there ever been an incident of chicken-on-human violence?

How lovely and I think you’ll be okay
Thank you, Sheree…and I hope so!
😎
Beware!
😂
Haha, what a great and fitting poem! They definitely look alert, but also sooo cute.
Just yesterday, I watched a documentary about baby animals so a discussion followed about who are the cutest baby animals. Baby ducks and chickens are definitely in the top 5. But I think I love baby boars the most.
My mum grew up on large farm and she definitely was a bit scared of pigs no large chickens, so be careful 🤭
I agree, the baby chicks have been adorable, but I’m partial to puppies.
I’ll heed your warning and keep my guard up, just in case! 🙂
What a fascinating premise. You either have an overactive imagination or fowl things are afoot. 😱🐣😱🐣😱
LOL…I’m not taking any chances! 🙂
Wise man.
