For National Poetry Month, I feel like I’m obligated to share a few of my own. I wrote this poem just the other day after thinking back on an awkward encounter I had with a someone I’d just met.
Random Thoughts
Sometimes the words,
well, they just
don’t come when I need them.
They scatter like butterflies
in the wind,
flickering to and fro,
just out of reach.
I stumble,
feeling foolish,
not realizing that no one else notices.
Just me.
I think everyone has a moment like this every once in a while. It’s human nature to be awkward in a strange situation. It’s just that some people are better at adapting (or masking it) than others. Most of the time, either the other person doesn’t notice or is feeling the exact same way and we don’t realize it. Human nature, I guess.
Are you one of the lucky ones who can adapt, or do you find yourself at a loss for words in certain situations?

Delightful, Richard.
Thank you, Sheree.
Excellent!
Thank you!
The poem is very relatable. I don’t write often, but when I do, the ideas are there, but putting the words to paper doesn’t seem to be easy.
So I am glad you did the writing here, because I actually managed to come up with a drawing!
Will post it soon!
Reading that makes me smile, Andrea. I’m glad to know my words connected.
And your illustrations are amazing! You did a wonderful job of capturing my meaning. Thank you so much!
An excellent poem, Richard. 🙂
I appreciate it, my friend!
