Bradbury Challenge Update 3 [Writing]

My third two-week period of this challenge was productive. I completed another short story draft, did a lot of reading, and felt like it all put me in a good mental state.

In other words, being productive releases endorphins. At least, it does for me. Sort of like a what happens when I enjoy a good hot sauce, play with my mutts, or spend quality time with my partner. First page of "Impropriety"

The short story was an interesting one to write. I’ve written from a female point of view in the past, but this is, I think, the first time I wrote from a young woman’s perspective. It was challenging, but I’m happy with how it turned out. I actually completed it a few days before my self-imposed deadline.

That gave me a few days to think about the next story. The first three were the result of partial ideas I had in mind or had scribbled down on a piece of paper. I’ll comb through my idea file and see what sticks out to me.

I’m still working my way through Leaves of Grass for my daily poetry intake. I’m reading it straight through, in order, for the first time in a long time. It gives a different perspective to read it this way instead of opening to a random page. It’s reading it the way the author, Walt Whitman, intended for it to be read.

I’m also still reading a horror collection. The stories are well-written and I find them inspiring in that they’re showing me a different way to look at horror fiction. To me, the stories are told in unique ways, and by doing this the author has given the stories an eerie quality that I haven’t seen before.

All in all, this has been a fun ride so far. I don’t have an end time for the challenge. I guess I just continue to do it until it’s no longer a challenge and just part of my regular routine.
