I’ve had some issues with my hosting company and couldn’t get access to my site, so apologies for the one or two folks who have possibly waited for an update.
So I had previously posted about Bradbury and writing a story a week. An admirable goal, but not exactly attainable with my current schedule. I have a full-time job that requires a fair amount of attention, plus my regular duties at home…cooking 99% of the meals, taking care of the mutts, the aquariums, the vegetable garden. Hell, home is a full-time job.
But I did challenge myself to a writing goal. And I succeeded. I wrote a short story in four days, approximately four and a half hours. And yeah, it’s actually a good story. I still need to read over it and make a few adjustments, but for what it’s worth it turned out well.
So that’s my new goal: To try and write a short story every two weeks. The only time I really have available is the weekends, so I can get up early on Saturday and Sunday mornings and have a couple of hours to write without any distractions. Apparently, this works for me. In fact, I started another story this morning that has potential. I have to really push myself, but I’m going to try and get this one completed between this weekend and the end of next weekend.
Of course, a schedule like this may not always work out. For example, not every story is going to be worth a damn. And some stories may require some additional time, for either crafting or editing.
It’s not a perfect process, but it’ll work for me. And worse case scenario, I write a dozen or so stories in the next twelve months. That really isn’t too bad.
